About course activation and course Start and End Dates
When a course is active it becomes accessible to learners in the My Courses widget, and in the Select a Course menu. If no Start Date and End Date are set in the Course Offering Information the course is immediately available for learners to access.
If a Start Date is set for any date after the activation occurs, when the start date is reached the course becomes visible to learners in the My Courses widget, and in the Select a Course menu. This is dependent on the configuration variable settings in use at your organization.
When a course’s End Date is reached and the course is still active, the course is no longer visible to learners in the My Courses widget, and in the Select a Course menu. This is dependent on the configuration variable settings in use at your organization.
Important Note: If a Start Date and End Date are set but the instructor does not select the Course is active check box, the course does not become accessible to learners on the selected Start Date. The course must be activated using the Course is active check box on the Course Offering Information page.
Control the visibility of future or past courses
The visibility of courses before their start date, and after their end date is determined by the d2l.Security.BypassDateCheck and d2l.Security.HasOrgUnitDateRestrictions configuration variables. The d2l.Security.BypassDateCheck variable controls whether courses with start / end dates are displayed in the My Courses widget, and the Pulse mobile apps outside their date range (before their start date or after their end dates). It is only applicable to roles without the Access Past / Future Courses setting. When turned on, users can see upcoming courses, and previous course offerings they are enrolled in. They cannot access these course offerings. Security.HasOrgUnitDateRestrictions must be enabled, as it controls whether org unit start / end date restrictions are enforced. When enabled, roles without the Access Past / Future Courses setting cannot access date-restricted course offerings outside their date range.
